Our Review:
The Proform 18.0 elliptical is an affordable newer model coming in for under $1000. It has a bit more substance and weight to it than lower end models and would be best suited for light to regular exercisers.
One of the best things about this elliptical is the one touch incline or ramp. Ramp changes the slope of your elliptical pathway. This recruits different muscle groups and also changes the length of your stride (from 20 - 23").
You can choose to go from 15 to 40 degrees with this elliptical, which is excellent (lesser models only give you up to 20 degrees).
Another great thing about this elliptical are the 3 different angle adjustments on the pedals. Everyone has different body mechanics when in the elliptical 'running' position and with these different angle adjustments, you can choose the right position for you.
Like most of their ellipticals, the Proform 18.0 elliptical comes iFit LIVE compatible. This is a popular feature that allows you to connect your machine to the Internet (using the wireless in your home).
From there you can download new workouts every day to your machine - even workouts from celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels - when she coaches you through your workout.
You can also map out new workouts using Googlemaps, race against Facebook friends and track your fitness activity over time. Basically you'll never run out of things to do with this feature.
Another nice touch are the resistance and incline controls on the moving armbars. So you can easily adjust your resistance without having to reach up to the console and break your stride.
If you're looking for a challenge, there are 24 built-in workouts in addition to the iFit LIVE workouts - including 12 weight loss and 12 Performance based routines. They automatically adjust the incline and resistance for you.
The console is backlit and easy to read. It's also slightly larger than other Proform starter models, which a lot of people like. It shows you constant feedback of your speed, time, distance, resistance, calories burned and pulse.
Any drawbacks?
Be aware that the iFit LIVE module is extra with this machine. We also found the fan was adequate, but not overly strong on the console.
