Highlights:
The Proform 510 comes in at an incredible price – especially considering you get both incline and a longer 20” stride. While the incline is manual adjustment, you can get up to 20 degrees to help challenge your lower body.
The dual grip heart rate sensors can help you stay in your target heart rate range. And the iFit compatibility can help you download new workout programs to your machine – and track your workout progress online.

The Proform 510 elliptical is a newer, affordable crosstrainer in the Proform lineup. You get some features that you would never have gotten at this price point just a few years ago.
For example you can get up to a 20" stride on this machine. (Stride is basically the space between the pedals at the furthest point). A long stride helps you get a better lower body workout and uses more leg muscles.
Most starter ellipticals give you from a 14 - 16" stride so a 20" stride (which is usually found on higher end models) is an incredible feature here. And it's also great for taller users as they can pick up the pace more comfortably.
Another nice thing about this elliptical is the ramp or incline. This feature helps you to crosstrain different lower body muscle groups by changing the slope of the elliptical pathway.
While it is manual (meaning you have to get off the machine to change the ramp), you do get 5 different positions to choose from and you can go up to a 20 degree incline.
As with most newer Proform models you do get iFit LIVE compatibility. This is a feature that uses the wireless internet in your home to download new workouts to your machine - even some from celebrity trainers like Jillian Michaels.
You can also go online and track your activity over time, set new fitness goals and map out new routes using Googlemaps. iFit LIVE gives you a lot of option and can help you take control of your fitness regimen.
We found the console on this machine to be very small - in fact it's probably the smallest console window Proform makes. However it is backlit and you can read your workout stats pretty well.
There's also an iPod dock with speakers to listen to your favorite workout mix as you exercise.
Any drawbacks?
Again, this is a very simple elliptical. The footpedals are fixed and your standard plastic grade option. Also, be aware that the iFit LIVE module is extra.
Overall though, this is still pretty good for the price point - especially considering the stride and ramp options.
