Our Review:

The Smooth 3.0 elliptical is currently Smooth's most affordable trainer - with some interesting twists thrown in.

While it's a basic, simpler model you get a few things that other Smooth models don't give you - the main one being the 2-in-1 stepper-elliptical option.

So you can use this machine as both an elliptical and as a stair-climber. So you get 2 machines in one. And it's very simple to switch it over.

You basically unscrew the foot slide knobs and move them to the base to turn it from a crosstrainer to a stair climber. This also makes it handy for multiple user families as maybe you want to do an elliptical workout while your significant other prefers the stair climber.

Another benefit to the 3.0 is that it's also very compact - shorter than a standard elliptical. It's also fairly light (compared to other ellipticals) so you can move it around pretty easily.

This is a great option if you have a smaller workout area like a condo or apartment. You don't have this monster machine taking up all the space in the room.

There's also a wireless heart rate monitor to stay in your target fat-burning zone. Or you can also use the hand grip pulse sensors on the stationary bars in front of the console.

The console itself is on the simpler side - a 2 color LCD display that shows your time, distance/odometer, resistance levels, speed/RPM, age and pulse.

We found the Smooth 3.0 elliptical to be sturdy and run very smooth - with a surprisingly long 21" stride (which is very comfortable for most people). It's also fairly quiet so you can watch TV or listen to music without a problem.

Any drawbacks?

Well, be aware that the Smooth 3.0 elliptical does not come with a console fan or an iPod dock. It also does not come with some of the extras that higher end Smooth trainers carry like the MySmooth Virtual Fitness Trainer or the thumb controls on the armbars.

But overall, if you're looking for a compact yet sturdy machine that gives you 2 machines for the price of one, you'll probably be very happy with the Smooth 3.0 trainer.
